Spanish class will never be the same! Discover Cuzco, the cultural heart of the Inca Empire, as you immerse yourself in its sights and sounds—ancient flutes, traditional clothes, and surrounding Andean peaks. Volunteer on various agricultural and infrastructural projects to improve the living conditions for Campesino communities in and around the Sacred Valley, near Cuzco. Practice your Spanish and Quechua with friendly native speakers.

The GLA Experiential Language Curriculum™ integrates Spanish language learning into all aspects of the experience, allowing students to take away more of the culture, and also leave more behind. From community service to excursions and cultural events, language is given a new context. Spanish class will never be the same.

Language Immersion

Your Adventure is Just Around the Corner!

Community Service

In spite of Cuzco city’s success in tourism, many of Cuzco’s rural areas remain impoverished and cut off from governmental resources and assistance. Alongside your fellow volunteers, work on infrastructure projects that improve the quality of life for Campesino communities. Interact with the families you’re serving and experience locals’ generosity as they help you improve your Spanish and Quechua speaking skills. You may also lend a hand on other projects depending on the community’s needs at the time your program.

Immersive Learning

Take advantage of a unique language immersion curriculum that combines classroom time with practicing Spanish in everyday situations: during service, cultural activities, and even on excursions. Learn in a school that was recently named among the top locations to learn Spanish by National Geographic! All levels are welcome, and you’ll be placed with peers at a similar level of speaking and comprehension ability. Improving your Spanish communication skills will deepen your cultural learning experiences – like participating in Andean art, dance, and music workshops, listening to talks about cosmology, and meeting farming communities and artisans.

Adventure

Explore the breathtaking Sacred Valley, home to traditional Quechua communities and incredible mountain views. Hike through ancient Incan ruins, a majestic waterfall, and through misty mountain passes on the way to Machu Picchu, a sacred citadel that has mystified travelers for a century. Walk through Cuzco’s cobblestone streets and bustling markets. Visit highland communities and learn about traditional artisanal and agricultural practices. Stay 21 days to raft through a scenic river valley and hike the visually stunning Rainbow Mountain!

Lodging

Home Base is located in one of the picturesque villages of the Sacred Valley, outside the city of Cuzco. You’ll live in a family atmosphere, surrounded by tall mountains and fields of crops. Students stay in gender-segregated rooms with roommates and have access to shared bathrooms with hot and cold water. There will be ample common space for group activities, meals and daily Spanish classes.
