Your Adventure is Just Around the Corner!
Community Service
Contribute to meaningful service projects that provide for improved public heath and wellness. Depending on the needs of the community at your time of arrival, your service could include initiatives such as health data collection, public health advocacy, putting together first aid kits for distribution, or projects that support the long-term health and sustainability of the local environment. Your new WAFA certification will also equip you for future service work off the beaten path, as you will learn the basic skills to communicate with any individual who does not share your the same language, and applies to both humans and animals alike.




Immersive Learning
Earn your Wilderness Advanced First Aid certification through NOLS – the leader in wilderness medicine courses – as part of an intensive 5-day WAFA course during your program. Certified students will be able to conduct a basic physical exam, evaluate patient history, read vital signs and be prepared to deliver emergency care in the wild. Learn the basics of first aid and field medicine, and how important knowing these life-saving techniques can be for those who frequent nature trails or locations far from population centers with easy access to professional care. You will also get a chance to hear from guest speakers and local leaders entrusted with ensuring public health and wellness.
Adventure
Enjoy a kayaking or rafting excursion in a state famed for its many rapids and rivers. And don’t forget to bring your hiking boots! From mountains to nature trails, Colorado is jam-packed with opportunities to hike while exploring the local wilderness; spot local flora and fauna on your treks. Additionally, consider earning your Wilderness Advanced First Aid certification an adventure in its own right. You will learn many new skills through real-life role plays and expedition-based learning that can be truly exhilarating.

Custom Group Travel Option
Global Leadership Adventures offers open enrollment on this program to any middle school student who wishes to join any of the summer session dates listed above. Students will meet other teens from around the country and the world who sign up for the same program dates and destination.
Alternatively, this program is also available as an option for custom group travel any time of the year for those looking to put together their own group trip.
GLA Custom Group Travel works with educators, group leaders, or self-led students to create a tailored experience for their specific group of 12 or more students. Select a pre-designed itinerary or select your own countries, themes, and learning objectives. GLA’s service-learning methodology is the vehicle through which students learn, grow and challenge themselves and their fellow travelers; our host communities welcome students’ energy and helping hands.
Leadership and personal growth are the core components of all of our programs, regardless of duration, destination or theme type and can be woven throughout every aspect of the experience through our intentional design as desired by the group leader. Our programs aim to ignite participants to become inspired to be the change.
