Community Service
Shadow and assist local medical professionals as they provide free health checks, basic physical exams and assessments. Learn firsthand about the importance of providing free and quality care to communities that wouldn’t otherwise have access to it. After a little bit of learning, put your new medical Spanish into practice as you accompany qualified professionals offering medical care! For students on the 21-Day Flagship Program, in addition to shadow-learning, you will lend a hand on a physical service project. Improve living conditions for indigenous communities by working on infrastructural public health projects that will make a meaningful difference and sustainable impact.

Immersive Learning
Gain exposure to a variety of healthcare settings and further your understanding of how political, economic and environmental disparities have a collective impact on global health. Learn about many key issues rural communities in Guatemala face, such as access to healthcare and public health initiatives. Also, confront the challenges of preserving indigenous culture in a modernizing world. You will visit an organic coffee plantation on-program, and learn from master artisans about traditional Guatemalan arts such as weaving. Finally, to fully immerse yourself in the culture, you will participate in a traditional wedding ceremony and meet with a local shaman, an experience you will never forget! On the 21-Day Flagship Program, students will learn to dance salsa and nibble tasty treats in a Guatemalan chocolate class.
Adventure
Explore the ancient and famous archaeological ruins at Iximche, a fully-functioning Maya ceremonial site. Hike to Laguna Chicabal, a crater lake at the base of a volcano, as you discover the mystique and nature of Guatemala. Raft through a stunning river valley and enjoy the breathtaking views. Discover the magical city of Antigua, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, and get acquainted with its colonial treasures. For a weekend excursion, journey across the sacred Lake Atitlán and shop at the Chichicastenango market, the largest indigenous craft market on the continent! Students on the 21-Day Flagship Program will also embark on a two-day, one-night excursion to the ancient Maya city of Tikal, the largest pre-Hispanic settlement in the country.
