Get to know Athens and discover its ancient sites, such as the Acropolis and the Ancient Agora. Immerse yourself in the coastal region of Messenia and learn all about loggerhead turtles. Wrap up your adventure with a visit to Delphi to explore the temple of Apollo and other historical sites, which have had significant impact on Greek mythology and history. Meet with warm locals, taste incredible Mediterranean cuisine and immerse yourself in the sights and sounds of this vibrant and warm culture!

Community Service

Each year, Loggerhead Turtles come to the Messenia region in Greece to lay their eggs. You’ll learn from local experts about the right techniques to safely rescue and transport an injured sea turtle. You’ll also have the opportunity to snorkel in the area where turtles are seen most often – and while there’s no guarantee that you’ll see one, your chances are pretty high! For service, participate in beach cleanups in the area in order to keep nesting sites as healthy as possible. You’ll also learn about the Posidonia seagrass and support a local organization that conducts snorkeling mapping to further promote the conservation of this species.

Hands-on Learning

Learn all about conservation of the Loggerhead turtle in the Ionian Islands. Explore the multiple issues faced by conservation organizations in the context of tourism and development, and learn the technical skills required to rescue an injured turtle. Develop your snorkeling mapping skills while you search for Posidonia seagrass. Learn about Greek history by visiting important archaeological sites like Acropolis and Delphi’s Temple of Apollo. Treat yourself to some of Greece’s amazing food while you participate in a cooking class.

Adventure

Explore central Athens by bicycle, as you take in the stunning views of the Acropolis from different angles. Enjoy the crystal clear waters of the Mediterranean as you embark on several snorkeling adventures. Hike the coastlines of the Messenia region.

Lodging

This is a moving program. You’ll be staying at 4 hotels in different parts of Greece. Rooming will always be shared in double or triple rooms with private bathrooms. In the Messenia region, you’ll be staying in glamping tents of 3-4 students. Each “tent” has AC and private bathroom.
