TURTLE & CONSERVATION ADVENTURE

Community Service

Due to the increasing effects of climate change and human impact on the Ioninan Islands, loggerhead turtles and other native wildlife are at risk of extinction. Greece is actually home to nearly half of all loggerhead turtle nests in the Mediterranean, so helping to safeguard its habitat is paramount to the protection of the species. You and your new friends will support a local turtle sanctuary in its efforts to protect endangered and threatened species. Your work may consist of beach surveys (early morning or late at night), as well as various infrastructure projects needed in the turtle sanctuary.

Hands-on Learning

Learn all about conservation of the loggerhead sea turtle in the Ionian Islands during your time in Greece. Alongside your peers, explore the many issues faced by conservation organizations in the context of tourism and development. Listen to multiple perspectives and learn about the different paradigms in the world of conservation. And while important, not all of your hands-on learning in the country will be centered around conservation alone!  Treat yourself to some of Greece’s amazing food while you participate in a cooking class. Explore Greek history by visiting important archaeological sites like the world-famous Acropolis and Delphi’s Temple of Apollo. And see what modern Greek like is like in contrast to its ancient history.

Adventure

The word ‘adventures’ is in our name for a reason here at Global Leadership Adventures! Explore central Athens by bicycle for a whirlwind tour of this vibrant city, as you take in the stunning views of the Acropolis, a UNESCO World Heritage Site and home to the ancient Parthenon, from different angles. Travel around Greece by ferry while taking in the stunning views of the Ionian Islands. Thee islands have tremendous Greek history to discover as well as a renowned Italian influence due to their geography, so they’re a location that’s not to be missed! Join your new friends on a kayaking trip and enjoy the crystal clear waters of the Ionian Sea.
