SPANISH SERVICE ADVENTURE

Take learning Spanish out of the classroom —you’ll live in Heredia, known for its lush cloud forests, pristine nature and friendly Costa Ricans, all as you learn to speak the language from locals. These experiences enhance your language immersion, making sure you get plenty of practice and return home a more confident Spanish speaker. From ziplining to hiking in a national park to experiencing the magnificence of Costa Rica’s wildlife up close, this is a summer program you won’t want to miss!

The GLA Experiential Language Curriculum™ integrates Spanish language learning into all aspects of the experience, allowing students to take away more of the culture, and also leave more behind. From community service to excursions and cultural events, language is given a new context. Spanish class will never be the same.

Have you ever felt like learning Spanish out of a textbook didn’t really connect you in a meaningful way to the language? You’re certainly not alone! Enhance your language by living in Costa Rica for two or three weeks while learning through immersive exchanges with the community. Every hour spent at a service site or on an adventure will push you to use your Spanish skills, creating a fun and intensive learning environment. Take advantage of a city tour led by local guides, dance classes and cooking lessons conducted in Spanish. You’ll better be able to articulate what you’re trying to say in Spanish when you can build through meaningful context provided by up-close immersion in the community. Also during your time on-program, learn the importance of universal access to education and discuss social and environmental issues that reach far beyond Costa Rica’s borders.
