Community Service

Community Development & Children Track

Make a difference in the lives of Costa Rican youth. Empower local children through your volunteer work in schools. Help with school refurbishment and beautification projects and participate in cross-cultural exchange with students from the nearby towns.

Animal & Wildlife Conservation Track

Learn about Costa Rican wildlife, and sustainable animal care. Service includes feeding the animals, cleaning enclosures, creating toys and stimulating exercises, and general tidying of the grounds.

Immersive Learning

Experience true Costa Rican culture while living and learning in your new community. Connect with the local people, taste delicious fruits, and try your hand at cooking local cuisine. Dive into topics about animal welfare and children’s access to education depending on which track you choose. You’ll also have opportunities to practice your Spanish or pick up new words with locals in the region.

Adventure

In Costa Rica, all trails lead to waterfalls, tropical forests or scenic beaches—there’s no shortage of adventure! Zipline through tall canopy trees, go hiking in the rainforest, and explore one of the country’s pristine beaches. Discover the Cacao tree and feast on its fruit during an exciting chocolate tour. You’ll also have the opportunity to experience Costa Rica’s exotic wildlife up close during your program. You never know where you might spot a sloth or monkey!

Lodging

Home Base will be a family-owned lodge in the Central Valley region of Costa Rica, which includes a large indoor common area and a pool. Wake up to the surrounding views of lush landscapes and the chirping of native birds. Students will share gender-segregated rooms with roommates, and have access to Western-style en-suite bathrooms.
