EDUCATION & MARINE ADVENTURE

Program Overview

On this program you will journey to the island of Bali. Located in Indonesia, during your time on the island you’ll positively influence local youth and explore the many wonders of the “Island of the Gods.” The Balinese people are what make this region truly beautiful. Charming and generous, local residents warmly welcome you to their communities and invite you to learn about the unique culture of Indonesia’s most diverse island. Volunteer at a local school teaching about environmental sustainability and bonding with the community. In the afternoons and evenings, you might hike to a waterfall, hop on a spider boat to catch the sunset, or gather around a bonfire on the beach. An epic scuba experience also awaits!

Community Service

Speaking English unlocks advancement opportunities for Balinese youth. Go off the beaten path in this tourist hot spot, interacting with many of the villages and impoverished communities that are overlooked by most visitors. Bali’s education system is one area that needs real attention, and you can make a difference during your time here, reflecting about sustainability and sharing that with youth. Volunteer at an English camp and create unforgettable bonds with your students. Design creative lesson plans and share crucial language lessons that can unlock new opportunities for young people on this island full of marine life. Through community service, you’ll get to know the locals while getting a rare peek into the daily life of the Balinese.

Immersive Learning

Surrounded by beautiful beaches, lush green terraced rice paddies and intricate temples, opportunities for discovery are plentiful on the island. You’ll be interacting daily with a culture that celebrates sustainable, communal living. Get to know what living on the island is really like. Learn about environmental issues during your scuba excursion and discuss problems facing modern-day rice farmers. You’ll even get to enjoy a traditional dinner and conversation with a Prince or Princess of Ubud at the Royal Palace! Try your hand at the gamelan drum and legong dance and participate in ancient ceremonies to truly absorb the island’s spiritual culture. For students on the 21-Day Program, visit the Coral Triangle Center for a presentation on preserving marine biodiversity, and to try their environmental escape room.

Adventure

True adventure in Bali is tied to living harmoniously with the natural world. As you discover more of the island, you’ll see firsthand why it’s such a beloved destination for global travelers. Surf the Southern Bali coastline, one of the world’s top surfing destinations. Explore nearby island temples that make Bali world-famous, and learn to scuba dive and explore a coral reef in the stunning Pacific. For students on the 21-Day Flagship Program, you’ll also enjoy an exciting whiteriver rafting excursion through Bali’s lush vegetation, and have the incredible opportunity to go snorkeling with reef manta rays at Manta Point, named for the unique community of manta rays that inhabit the surrounding deep waters.

Lodging

Your Home Base in Bali on the 21-Day Flagship Program will be in two locations – Ubud and Amed. These incredible destinations have all the comforts of home, but also a distinct essence that draws people from all over the world.
