Global Summer Symposium

on Social Justice

THE GLOBAL SUMMER SYMPOSIUM IS NO LONGER PLANNED FOR OPERATION IN SUMMER 2021.

Join us for a two-week online program where you will analyze various social justice issues facing the African continent. Travel virtually to Morocco and South Africa to consider what social justice issues face these countries today and what is being done to address them. Explore the concept of social justice and make the case for equality that confronts racial and gender divides.

ON THIS VIRTUAL PROGRAM YOU WILL:

  • Travel “virtually” to Morocco and South Africa to collaborate with organizations in the field
  • Witness how these organizations are actively working toward equality in their communities
  • Meet like-minded peers who share your passion for achieving social justice
  • Explore UN Sustainable Development Goal #5 — Gender Equality
  • Dive into UN Sustainable Development Goal #10 — Reduced Inequalities
  • Earn a certificate of achievement at the end of your two-week experience

During this Global Summer Symposium on Social Justice, you will explore the concept of social justice and ask yourself many critical questions.

How do countries on opposite ends of Africa approach issues concerning gender, race and identity? And how can they use each of their country’s histories to bring lessons for the future generations?

Students on this program will travel “virtually” to South Africa and Morocco to see the challenges being encountered by the people who live there, and to learn from organizations in the field actively working toward equality in their communities.

Throughout this two-week online program, learn more about social justice as a concept through an African lens.

Together with the SAVE Foundation in South Africa, students will learn how South Africa’s political past (Apartheid, in particular) shaped the Rainbow Nation we know today.

Explore social justice issues facing local communities that are compounded by poverty in South Africa.

Despite compulsory education laws and free education, many schools in Morocco are still inaccessible to women in many parts of society.

Students will learn first-hand from the lived experiences of women in Morocco and explore programs that are designed to empower women and children through education.

During this program, explore United Nations Sustainable Development Goal #5 – Gender Equality and United Nations Sustainable Development Goal #10 – Reduced Inequalities.

From Morocco, tackle two key issues at the forefront of current events: the empowerment of women and children's education

From South Africa, you will ask: why does an access gap exist, and what is being done to address it decades years after Apartheid?

Earn a certificate of achievement and use this experience as a capstone for your college applications or future career resumes
