THE GLOBAL SUMMER SYMPOSIUM IS NO LONGER PLANNED FOR OPERATION IN SUMMER 2021.

Join us for a two-week online program where you will explore the intersection of traditional and western medicine. Travel virtually to Nigeria and Thailand to compare and contrast their public health systems -- how do countries on opposite ends of the globe approach healthcare? Learn about criticial issues facing these healthcare systems, from addressing the lack of healthcare leadership in West Africa to navigating the complexities of utilizing both traditional and western medicine in Southeast Asia.

ON THIS VIRTUAL PROGRAM YOU WILL:

  • Travel “virtually” to Africa and Asia where you will collaborate with health professionals from Nigeria and Thailand
  • Learn how two organizations on the front lines are confronting critical health issues in their communities
  • Meet like-minded peers with a shared interest in public health and medicine
  • Explore UN Sustainable Development Goal #3 – Good Health & Well-Being
  • Dive into UN Sustainable Development Goal #10 – Reduced Inequalities
  • Earn a certificate of achievement at the end of your two-week experience

During this Global Summer Symposium on Medicine, challenge conventional thinking as you embrace new systems and approaches to support sustainable access to public health and medicine.

How do different cultures approach health, medicine and wellness? And how do each of these cultures perceive the concept of medicine?

Students on this program will travel virtually to Nigeria and Thailand to explore these questions.

Throughout this two-week online program, confront the global healthcare landscape as it is today.

Together with the Healthcare Leadership Academy in Nigeria, students will learn how a gap in leadership and governance in healthcare can translate into unintended consequences for those from marginalized communities.

Listen to experts on the ground working for an organization committed to empowering current and future generations of healthcare professionals with the necessary tools, leadership skill sets and capabilities to address specific health system challenges endemic to Africa.

Learn first-hand about the lived experiences of those working in the healthcare system in Thailand, particularly in its bustling capital, Bangkok.

Explore ultra-modern hospitals in the city that more than 8 million Thais call home, learning about various hospital departments and the most common ailments treated there. Hear from Thai doctors about the advancements made in both public and private hospitals in Bangkok and explore the concept of reducing inequalities when it comes to receiving adequate healthcare, regardless of socioeconomic status.
