Leadership & Intentional Program Design

Prepare Yourself for he richest cross-cultural experience f your life. GLA crafts each program to be immersive and multidimensional by combining three key components: Community Service, Hands On Learning, and Adventure. Experiencing a country through all three lenses invites students to have heightened opportunities for getting to know local residents and lends a strong sense of purpose to their travel.

Community Service

For many GLA students, the community service project is the cornerstone of the experience. It’s your chance to make a meaningful difference while working alongside a community that can benefit from your hard work. Your program director and Mentors will guide you as you build something the community has contribute in another meaningful way. Students may have an opportunity to lead others as a Leader of the Day at the service site.

All of Our Global Service-Learning programs based in Africa, Asia and Latin America include a minimum of 20 hours of community service. Community service
is a core part of these experiences and many of our alumni leave these programs valuing the time they spent on service sites most.

Each of our Europe Discovery programs based in locations throughout Europe include 10 or fewer hours community service. While every GLA program contributes to a community in a meaningful way, the reduced service hours on these programs reflect a greater focus on exploratory travel.

Safety is our #1 priority. While we believe in the transformative power of stepping outside comfort zones, we remain invested in managing the risks of doing so. We created and heavily enforce our 5-Point Safety System, a set of rigorous standards, to ensure students’ safety and health, and parents peace of mind.
