GLA Honors Fellowship - History Track

You can select the History Track as a GLA Honors Fellow.

What is the History Track?

The GLA Honors Fellowship for History is about learning how the world was shaped and how cultures molded the world into what you see today.

The History Track of an Honors Fellowship requires accepted participants to complete pre-program, on-program, and post-program assignments or projects. Learn more about each below!

Fellowship Components

Pre-Program

While preparing for your trip and the final essay you’ll create, you’ll need to do some research into some of the most pivotal moments in history to gain a better understanding of the current culture of the country you’re visiting on your GLA program.

Within the History Fellowship, you’ll have different options study. Each option within the fellowship will focus on a different aspect of world history, many times connecting many different countries and societies. We recommend that you choose an option within the fellowship that will augment your understanding of your GLA program, but the choice is entirely up to you!

On-Program

Once on your program, you will be asked to think about what type of essay you would like to write when you finish your program. Try and think of questions that allow you to create an essay that is unique to your experience and framed by the history that you learned about in the pre-departure work.

The creativity of your final essay is completely up to you. You will be able to make it your own and develop your own personal style that conveys exactly what you want to say about the connection of what you learned and your experience. For this reason, we recommend that you keep a journal to jot down ideas that may come to light while you are on your program.

This will help you as you complete your final essay post-program.

Post-Program

Once you get back home, it will be time to pull from your experience and create your essay. Creating a well formed essay is more than just going off of a format and writing what people expect. We highly encourage you to take some chances! The most important aspect of your essay will be your thesis, so make sure it is strong had can sustain your ideas and arguments throughout your essay.

You final essay requirements will be outlined in greater detail in your Fellowship Curriculum, which you will receive upon acceptance as an Honors Fellow in the Philosophy Track.

Completion of your final essay project will be the capstone to your fellowship and an incredible highlight you can feature on upcoming college applications and beyond.
