Program Overview
Experience Costa Rican culture by interacting with local children in an after-school program. Help students with their homework, ignite their creativity through art and bond through playing sports games. Have a real impact on the future of the organization by improving the program’s facilities — garden, add some color to the classroom walls, and assist with crucial infrastructure projects as needed by the organization. Discover the fervor for soccer and the rise of other professional sports in Costa Rica– stay active with friendly pick-up games of soccer and volleyball.
Beyond the realms of sports and service, you’ll experience all the adventure and wildlife that Costa Rica has to offer. Zipline through the forest canopy, spotting monkeys and macaws with a little luck. Live the Pura Vida lifestyle as you enjoy the beautiful beaches of Guanacaste and catch some waves in the warm waters of the Pacific.

Community Service
Community service is at the heart of every GLA program! Volunteer on a variety of service projects that will support the local community that you’ll call home for two weeks. From infrastructure projects and facilities improvements, to after-school programming for local youth, to beach clean-ups to promote coastal conservation, you’ll have the chance to give hands-on support to community members and local organizations working to improve their home and environment here in Costa Rica.

Hands-on Learning
Discover the fervor for soccer and the rise of other professional sports in Costa Rica. By staying in a non-tourist community and hearing from local guest speakers and athletes, you’ll have a chance to learn about “Tico” culture and the role that sports play in it throughout your time here. On top of the sport-side of the culture here, learn about how important education is to the country. You’ll also discover Costa Rica’s renowned connection to – and protection of – the environment.

Adventure
You’ll definitely stay active during your time in Costa Rica! From playing pick-up soccer and volleyball games to leading an after-school sports program for local students, sports will be a constant throughout your program. Take on a local team in a higher-stakes soccer scrimmage. Try your hand at a couple of water sports. You’ll also have a chance to spend some time at a world-renowned beach. And no visit to Costa Rica is complete without the adrenaline rush of soaring through the jungle canopy on a zipline!
