Public Health & Medicine Track
Advocate for public health efforts at the Banjar (Balinese community center), which could include food and supply donations or health education to the community. You’ll also design and deliver a health education workshop for local youth.
Surrounded by beautiful beaches, lush green terraced rice paddies and intricate temples, you’ll be interacting daily with a culture that celebrates sustainable, communal living. You’ll learn about environmental issues during your snorkeling excursion, discuss problems facing modern-day rice farmers, and enjoy a traditional dinner and conversation with the Prince of Ubud at the Royal Palace. Try your hand at the gamelan drum and legong dance and participate in ancient ceremonies to truly absorb the island’s spiritual culture. Students will meet a traditional healer and learn about the unique convergence of eastern and western medicine in Bali as well as how local nonprofit clinics support maternal and general health.
With its pounding surf, emerald rice terraces and artistic culture, Bali is adventure, culture and spirituality all in one. You’ll quickly understand that all adventure here is tied to living harmoniously with the natural world. Whitewater raft through lush vegetation, explore temples and surf the Southern Bali coastline, one of the world’s top surfing destinations. You’ll also go on a sunrise boat ride and snorkel over coral reefs, marine wildlife, and even the remnants of a Japanese shipwreck from World War II. On the 21-day flagship program, hike in West Bali National Park, snorkel on the Coral Triangle and take a Discover SCUBA course to explore Bali’s underwater beauty.
Home Base in Bali will be in two to three locations (depending on the length of your program), as you travel around the island: Ubud, Amed, Pemuteran.
