On This Program you will...
Journey to the island of Bali, where you’ll explore the many wonders of the “Island of the Gods.” The Balinese people are what make this region truly beautiful. Charming and generous, local residents warmly welcome you to to their communities and invite you to learn about the unique culture of Indonesia’s most diverse island. On the Children & Education track, volunteer at a local school, teaching English and bonding with the community. On the Public Health & Medicine track, deepen your understanding of the global health puzzle, including a visit to a natural birth clinic. During your time off service, enjoy Bali’s uplifting culture through live music, dance performances and high adventure on the coast.

Community Service
Children & Education Track
Speaking English unlocks advancement opportunities for Balinese youth. Volunteer at an English camp and create unforgettable bonds with your students as you design creative lesson plans and share crucial language lessons.
Public Health & Medicine Track
Advocate for public health efforts at the Banjar (Balinese community center), which could include food and supply donations or health education to the community. You’ll also design and deliver a health education workshop for local youth.




Immersive Learning
Surrounded by beautiful beaches, lush green terraced rice paddies and intricate temples, you’ll be interacting daily with a culture that celebrates sustainable, communal living. You’ll learn about environmental issues during your snorkeling excursion, discuss problems facing modern-day rice farmers, and enjoy a traditional dinner and conversation with the Prince of Ubud at the Royal Palace. Try your hand at the gamelan drum and legong dance and participate in ancient ceremonies to truly absorb the island’s spiritual culture. Students will meet a traditional healer and learn about the unique convergence of eastern and western medicine in Bali as well as how local nonprofit clinics support maternal and general health.
Adventure
With its pounding surf, emerald rice terraces and artistic culture, Bali is adventure, culture and spirituality all in one. You’ll quickly understand that all adventure here is tied to living harmoniously with the natural world. Whitewater raft through lush vegetation, explore temples and surf the Southern Bali coastline, one of the world’s top surfing destinations. You’ll also go on a sunrise boat ride and snorkel over coral reefs, marine wildlife, and even the remnants of a Japanese shipwreck from World War II. On the 21-day flagship program, hike in West Bali National Park, snorkel on the Coral Triangle and take a Discover SCUBA course to explore Bali’s underwater beauty.




Lodging
Home Base in Bali will be in two to three locations (depending on the length of your program), as you travel around the island: Ubud, Amed, Pemuteran. These fascinating destinations have all the comforts of home, but also a distinct essence that draws people from all over the world. Students share comfortable, gender-segregated rooms with roommates, and have access to bathrooms with toilets and cold-water showers.

Custom Group Travel Option
Global Leadership Adventures offers open enrollment on this program to any high school student who wishes to join any of the summer session dates listed above. Students will meet other teens from around the country and the world who sign up for the same program dates and destination.
Alternatively, this program is also available as an option for custom group travel any time of the year for those looking to put together their own group trip.
GLA Custom Group Travel works with educators, group leaders, or self-led students to create a tailored experience for their specific group of 12 or more students. Select a pre-designed itinerary or select your own countries, themes, and learning objectives. GLA’s service-learning methodology is the vehicle through which students learn, grow and challenge themselves and their fellow travelers; our host communities welcome students’ energy and helping hands.
Leadership and personal growth are the core components of all of our programs, regardless of duration, destination or theme type and can be woven throughout every aspect of the experience through our intentional design as desired by the group leader. Our programs aim to ignite participants to become inspired to be the change.
