Although Costa Rica has made significant progress in providing health care and education to its citizens, the country still faces challenges.
You‘ll make a difference everyday through projects that are transforming communities. You’re smile, spirit and hope can have a tremendous, positive effect. Small groups break off to engage in meaningful interactions with local citizens. You’ll complete approximately 40 hours of community service during your trip.
Last summer’s projects:
- With enthusiasm, dedication and fun, GLA participants volunteered at the below grassroots organizations. Students’ helped with activities ranging from: arts and crafts, music and games, to soccer matches and gardening.
- SOS Children’s Village - playing sports and engaging engaging in cultural exchange with abandoned children and orphans.
- Hogar Luz - giving attention and care to mentally handicapped people.
- Special Olympics - sports training for handicapped children, some of which will be competing in the Special Olympics in China in 2008.
- CENCINAI - doing arts and crafts projects with children at a daycare facility for sons and daughters of working mothers
